Picture this -

You sit down at your kitchen table, you pull out your notebook, and you write.

Your script fills one page, then the next. Then you keep going.

That dream project that you’ve been poking at for the past 3 years?

(The full draft of your novel, your poetry collection, that dissertation chapter, that fairy-tale retelling.)

When you open your computer at the end of the month, it’s done.

It’s done.

You did it, and that thing that’s been bubbling up inside you is real and tangible and on the page.

And you are a CHAMPION.

Sometimes, to make your dream come true, you don’t need a fairy godmother.

You need TWO fairy godmothers... plus a whole community cheering you on.

Welcome to...

We Begin June 2nd, 2025!

What Is This Exactly?

Welcome to the Carterhaugh Writers Society, a community created to reignite your creative practice and get you to the finish line of that glorious project that’s been haunting you for way too long.

Are you sick of not actually writing?

Done with not completing your project?

Do you know in your bones you have something to say, but you just need a little support to get those words on the page?

You can write with purpose, consistency, and a sense of joy. With sparkle.

So let’s write, together.

The Carterhaugh Writers Society will provide the structure and tools you need to finally scream “IT’S DONE!” We’ll help you carve out the space you need, offer real-time strategies for getting unstuck, and build massive momentum through accountability and community.

Actual Things People Have Said About CWS!

And the coolest part?
We’re writing with you.

Not only are we your fearless(ish) professors for this writing journey - we're going to be writing too!
In fact, our goal is to finally finish the fairy-tale poetry book we've been working on for literal years!

It's happening.

What Do You Get?

Co-Writing Time:
17 1-Hour Silent Zooms throughout the month of June! These sessions are WILDLY powerful - instead of saying you're going to write "someday," it's literally scheduled and in your calendar.

Witching Hours:
We'll be hosting four weekly Thursday Witching Hours for extra support from us and the community - jump in the hot seat, ask questions, and help each other thrive!

Exclusive Discord Community:
This is the place where we'll be sharing everything from our favorite writing pens to our publishing experiences to our favorite places to submit fairy-tale poetry!

Lunar Writing Journal: We've made a new Lunar Writing Journal PDF for June 2025 to help guide your writing experience. Write with the phases of the moon to give yourself structure and gain insight into how you work best!

Promptapolooza Writing Workshop - ROUND TWO: Our first Promptapolooza back in August of last year was so much fun that we're going to do it again! Brand new prompts, same silly sense of joy. This will happen on June 11th at 7PM! Oh, and guess what else? We're also giving you the recordings for the "Infernal Salon" and "Promptapolooza - Round One" writing workshops from previous rounds of CWS!

Private Podcast: Our 5 Episode Behind-the-Scenes Book Journey Private Podcast has some positively juicy insight into our forthcoming book from Sterling Ethos/Hachette, Fairylore, info about getting an agent, what the publishing process is actually like, and SO much more.

Intention-Setting Audio Guide: They say if you fail to plan, you plan to fail, so we start you off right with an intention-setting audio that will help you set out exactly what you want to accomplish in our month together.

Here are just a few of the AMAZING things people have said about CWS!

FAQ:

"You seriously want me to come sit on Zoom with you while we silently write? How is this going to help me?"

Yes. We completely, dead seriously want you to come sit on Zoom with us and write with us. We swear, if you actually show up, you will be STUNNED by what you can do. Also, “silent Zoom” kind of conceals what a community experience this is. We always say hi at the beginning, ask everyone to set an intention, and generally check in with people before we get started, and we sign off in the same way at the end, too. Also, all of the other times we've had a CWS month, the chat during each writing session was an incredibly valuable resource. People answered each other’s questions, celebrated wins, and commiserated on rough writing days. We weren’t expecting that, and it was one of the most joyful surprises of CWS!

"What if I'm ready to get some words on the page, but I don't have an active project at the moment?"

If you’re ready to spend dedicated time writing, then you’re very welcome! We’re also providing an audio guide to help you set an intention for our time together. What goal do you want to achieve? Why? What is reasonable (and exciting!) for you to do in one month?

"Will I need to have something that's been outlined or at least roughed out in my head before we start?"

Nope! You will probably make more progress if you do, but that doesn’t matter if your goal is simply to spend time writing instead of finishing a project.

"Will this be focused on novel-length fiction work, or can it be used to help with other kinds of writing projects?"

You absolutely do not have to write novel-length fiction. We’ll be writing poetry and possibly some non-fiction ourselves this time around! Any kind of writing, from a full manuscript to a daily journaling practice to just being present with your writing, is very welcome. We've also had people use the time to organize their hard drives and their idea files, write a poem a day, start a Substack blog, and simply do the reading they needed to do for a non-fiction project they were working on.

"What if I don’t want to speed write? Can I still join?"

Yes! This isn’t NaNoWriMo, and our goal is not to hit a particular word count - it’s to commit to a dedicated writing practice. We’re more interested in creating space and time to write than focusing on speed.

"How long do the Zoom co-writing sessions last?"

One hour. Sometimes longer, if we’re in the zone!

"What makes this different from any of those other places where you can co-write for free?"

In addition to all of the other amazing parts of CWS (like the workshops, the witching hours, the audio bonuses, the lunar writing journal, etc.), this isn’t just a bunch of random people getting on a call and staring at each other, with maybe a “you can do it!” occasionally popping up in the chat. This is a multi-passionate, hilarious, enchanted coven of DELIGHT. The Zoom sessions may be silent, but the chat is always hopping with questions and comments like “yeah, so we’re writing about the brownie-boggart continuum now?” and “what do you think is essential for a
Jane Eyre retelling?” and “CAT!” (you know, whenever a cat appears on screen, because everybody knows cats are the best parts of any Zoom meeting.) We really mean it when we say this is a community, a coven, a society, a community. And community makes all the difference.

"I live in New Zealand/ California/ Europe, and the co-writing times are midnight/ 3am/ Other Times That Do Not Work For Me. What are my options?"

We wish we could wave our magic wands and make all time zones align for our co-writing, but, alas, that is beyond our power. Our dedicated writing times are 12PM ET on Mondays/ Wednesdays/ Fridays and 7PM ET on Tuesdays. We recommend using a time zone calculator to check time differences.

"Will the Weekly Witching Hours be recorded?"

Yes. The witching hours (for live support, spotlight opportunities, Q&As, and more!) are on Thursdays at 7PM ET, and they will be recorded. If the time does not work for you, we encourage you to send in your questions early, and we can answer them for you in real time. Then you can catch the recordings at a more reasonable hour for you.

"What if I'm still on the fence?"

If you want to see what we’re all about before signing up AND get a TON of inspiration and practical advice for actually having a regular writing practice, we recommend you take a listen to our free podcast series Write Like a Witch by clicking right here!

You'll Love This If...

  • The idea of a writing community lights you up
  • You are beyond ready to get some words on the page
  • You want to reignite your creative practice

This Isn't For You If...

  • You don’t have a goal in mind and aren’t ready to choose one
  • You aren’t willing to try new strategies for getting unstuck and gaining momentum
  • A writing community doesn’t appeal to you

Who's Behind This?

Hi! We’re Drs. Sara Cleto and Brittany Warman. Between us, we live with a truly expansive smorgasbord of chronic illness and disabilities, and we don’t get up at 5am to manifest our dreams.

But we are really, really good at having a wild idea, figuring out how to make it happen, and then actually doing the writing until that idea is real and on the page and out in the world.

We’ve dreamt up and then created: two masters theses, two dissertations, a business (you would not believe how much writing that entails), two fully scripted tv series, and more than 150 published articles, reviews, poems, and short stories. Our first book, Fairylore, is forthcoming from Sterling Ethos/Hachette in February 2026!

People ask us all the time how we do it.

Let’s be real: even when you have the most brilliant idea, an idea that you are SO EXCITED to bring to life, it can be so hard to get started. It can be even harder to keep going.

Community is the antidote to writer’s block.

Community is writing magic.

We know this firsthand.

Let us share that magic with you.
